PIXELZ Newsletter

The launch of Sneex, Emily in Paris and AI in American Football

Hi there 👋
Maybe you’ve been getting our newsletter. And maybe you’ve actually been reading it. Either way, you’re probably a bit surprised by our new format.

I’m Pamela, by the way. I’ve worked for Pixelz for 3 years and have just barely kept our newsletter running. Along with upgrades on our website, I thought it was about time to update our newsletter.

You can expect to hear from me once a month. I’ll update you on what’s going on at Pixelz and share some industry-related things I find interesting. I hope you stick around and enjoy reading. If there’s anything you’d like to see me focus on or add to the newsletter, my inbox is always open. 📭

Top of Mind

Ask anyone in the Pixelz office, and they’ll let you know I’ve been consumed by the latest brand launch from Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx. She released her new shoe brand called Sneex. It’s a hybrid sneaker heel. There is so much to say about both the product and brand launch, so if you want my full hot take, you’ll have to find me at a FLOW event.

But here, I will say I’m confused. Haven’t we moved past this notion that you HAVE to wear heels? And haven’t we already done this sneaker heel thing? Remember the sneaker wedges of the early 2000s.

I’m not here to go after Sneex, like all things in life. I know there are people out there who are wearing and loving them. One of the reasons Sneex has been living rent-free in my mind is because, as confusing as the brand launch was to me, I’m also impressed with their visuals. At first, it added to the confusion (am I supposed to be working out in these heels?). The more I thought about this video, the more I realized - it was their take on editorial on fashion. And it matches the brand vision fully and speaks to their audience - hybrid heels for the woman trying to change the world. While I still don’t get it - well done.

This is where I'll share interesting links from around the internet:

  • From us at Pixelz, I looked at how brands use their product pages to explain their sustainability mission.
  • Emily in Paris has gone from a fun little guilty pleasure to being a player in the fashion business. Google Lens has even gotten in on it to help viewers identify products.
  • Curious about virtual models? We've broken down the need-to-know basics of AI vs. CGI and the most common use cases we see for virtual models.
  • I wanted to share an article on AI video and ended up at AI in American Football broadcasts. Taking a step back and understanding how AI is used in different industries opens us up to different ways to use AI in our own industry. Whether you know football or not, it's an interesting read!
