About

TravisMathew is a lifestyle apparel brand inspired by Southern California culture, known for blending performance golf wear with everyday casual style. What started with a focus on men’s golf apparel has evolved into a broader lifestyle offering, spanning multiple categories and occasions.

The Challenge: When Growth Outpaces Capacity

Over the past few years, TravisMathew has been on a steady growth trajectory, expanding product lines, launching more campaigns, and significantly increasing the volume of visual content needed to support its e-commerce business.

In the beginning, the team was already using Pixelz, but primarily as an out-of-the-box solution. It supported specific parts of the workflow, like basic image edits, but wasn’t fully integrated into how the team operated day to day.

And for a while, that worked. As the brand moved into new categories like womenswear and elevated campaigns, production demands didn’t just increase; they compounded. More products meant more imagery. More campaigns meant more variations. And suddenly, the systems that once felt efficient started to show their limits.

Behind the scenes, much of the workflow was still manual, heavily reliant on individuals. At one point, the entire post-production pipeline was supported by just one retoucher and one project manager.

And while that setup was impressively productive, it wasn’t built to scale.

A single retoucher, working around 50 hours a week at roughly 90% productivity, could process about 400 images per month. Meanwhile, the volume of incoming assets kept climbing rapidly.

As Mieko Jones, Project Manager at TravisMathew, put it:

"When we were a smaller company—a speedboat—we could move quickly and hide a lot of inefficiencies. But as we grew into a cruise ship, those inefficiencies became impossible to ignore."

This resulted in those familiar growing pains we all know so well: missed product launch timelines, vendor chargebacks, and increasing pressure across teams when assets couldn’t be delivered at the pace the business now required.

Editing the Workflow

Before a fully integrated Pixelz Workflow, TravisMathew’s visual production process relied heavily on manual coordination and internal resources. Much of the post-production process still depended on internal handoffs.

> After each shoot, the workflow involved multiple manual steps and handoffs. Files were first sorted and named before being uploaded for initial edits, then downloaded again for additional internal retouching. From there, they moved through several rounds of review and approval across teams, such as Art Directors and product stakeholders, before finally being distributed to e-commerce teams and uploaded into the digital asset management system.

Each step served a purpose, but together they created a process that became increasingly difficult to scale as the business grew.

"We realized we needed more comprehensive editing specifications so Pixelz could really support us in the way we needed. Once we did that, it allowed Pixelz to become a true partner in our workflow."
Mieko Jones - Project Manager, TravisMathew

Recognizing this, the team shifted its focus toward building a more structured and scalable foundation. This included standardizing file naming conventions, developing clearer editing specifications, and defining workflows that could be applied consistently across thousands of assets.

With that foundation in place, Pixelz moved from a supporting role to a fully integrated part of the production pipeline, enabling the team to scale output.

An Integrated, Scalable Workflow

With Pixelz, TravisMathew took a step back and rethought the entire post-production process and in doing so, made it a whole lot more simple.

Instead of juggling a long chain of manual handoffs, the team shifted their focus upstream, building quality and alignment earlier in the workflow. Art directors now define editing specifications from the start, so expectations are clear before images even hit post-production.

From there, everything just flows: capture in the studio, send to Pixelz as a full workflow partner, approval and edits, and then lastly upload to the DAM.

What used to involve multiple downloads, internal edits, and back-and-forth reviews has been streamlined into a much cleaner pipeline. The payoff for them has been faster turnaround times, fewer manual touchpoints, and a workflow that can actually keep up with the brand’s growth.

Unlocking Higher-Value Work

The impact of the new workflow goes beyond efficiency; it’s also changed how the team spends its time.

Previously, much of the team’s energy went toward repetitive production tasks. Skilled creatives were spending hours retouching individual images just to keep up with demand.

Now, with Pixelz handling much of the production workload, the team can focus on the work that moves the brand forward.

For example, the retoucher who once spent most of his time editing images is now able to step back into the studio: shooting, experimenting, and contributing more directly to creative production. Art directors also benefited from spending less time reviewing individual assets and more time shaping the visual direction of campaigns.

In return is a healthier workflow overall: people focus on creative and strategic work, while the system handles the scale.

Growth and Partnership

Over time, TravisMathew’s use of Pixelz has expanded far beyond its original role. What began as a solution for ghost mannequin and pin-removal editing now supports a wide range of content including:

  • Product imagery
  • Pin-up photography
  • Lifestyle and editorial imagery
  • Product detail shots
  • Creative grid assets
  • PDP videos
  • And now exploring catalog imagery using AI-generated models

Pixelz has evolved from a simple tool into a strategic partner. The teams collaborate closely to test new workflows, refine editing specifications, and explore new capabilities. Whether it’s solving complex production challenges or experimenting with emerging technologies like AI models, the partnership allows TravisMathew to continue scaling its visual production while keeping quality and consistency at the forefront. Most importantly, the new system has removed the capacity ceiling that once limited the team’s growth. TravisMathew can now support the brand’s expanding product lines, campaigns, and creative ambitions, without placing that pressure back on the people behind the work.

"The Pixelz team consistently goes above and beyond - from sorting complex content libraries to correcting images of flawed samples - all with remarkable precision and speed. Recently, we’ve also begun exploring new AI capabilities with Pixelz to address gaps where sample timelines aren’t always aligned with selling timelines. Their innovation in AI model replacement and posing has opened exciting opportunities to visualize product assortments earlier in the wholesale process, replacing what once relied solely on CAD art."
